Vape Delivery in Unity, Saskatchewan | Prairie Vape

Unity has been a salt town since the late 1940s: salt turned up during oil exploration, a plant was built in 1948, and production started in 1949. The mine is still the community's largest employer. So it's fitting that this page is about a different kind of salt entirely — the "salt" in nicotine salt e-liquid, a term that confuses a lot of people and has nothing to do with what comes out of the ground near town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does nicotine salt e-liquid contain table salt?

No. "Salt" describes the chemical form of the nicotine — nicotine paired with an acid — not table salt.

Why are salt e-liquids usually 20 mg/mL?

The salt form stays smoother at higher concentrations, so it suits tight, low-wattage pods at that strength.

Does Kapow Salt come in lower strengths?

Some of its variants are offered at 6 mg/mL; the rest are 20 mg/mL. Check the variant before ordering.

What device do I need for Koil Killz Salt?

A refillable pod system. Add one to the same order if you don't have one.

What "nicotine salt" actually means

In chemistry, a salt is any compound formed when an acid and a base react. Table salt, sodium chloride, is one example, and it's the kind Unity's mine produces. But the word covers a huge range of compounds, and most of them look and taste nothing like what's on a dinner table.

Nicotine is a base. In its natural, "freebase" form, it's quite alkaline, and at higher concentrations that alkalinity feels harsh on the throat. A nicotine salt is made by pairing nicotine with an acid. The result is a less alkaline form of nicotine, and that's the whole point: it's smoother to inhale at the same concentration.

So "nicotine salt" doesn't mean the e-liquid is salty, and it doesn't mean there's any table salt in it. It describes the chemical form the nicotine is in. The e-liquid itself is still made of the usual base liquids, flavouring, and nicotine — just nicotine in its salt form.

Why does that matter to you? Because it decides what device an e-liquid suits. Salt e-liquids stay smooth at higher strengths, so they're usually sold near the top of the legal range and paired with tight, low-wattage pod systems. A small pod sends a small amount of vapour per puff, and a stronger, smoother liquid suits that setup.

Freebase e-liquids go the other way. Because they get harsh as the strength climbs, they're mostly sold at lower strengths and used in higher-output devices, where each puff carries more vapour.

Two products show the salt side clearly. Koil Killz Salt is a nicotine salt e-liquid in a 30ml bottle at 20 mg/mL, made for refillable pod systems, in four varieties: Ambush, Rampage, Blitz, and R.I.P. Kapow Salt is also a 30ml nicotine salt e-liquid, sold mostly at 20 mg/mL, with some of its 15 variants offered at 6 mg/mL.

That second detail is worth noticing. Salt formulations aren't only for high strengths; some people prefer a salt's smoothness at a lower number too. When a product offers more than one strength, the variant you pick sets what arrives, so check the listed strength before adding it to your cart.

Label reading applies here as well. A salt e-liquid will usually say so in the product name, and the strength will be printed in mg/mL. The Koil Killz Salt and Kapow Salt listings both carry "salt" right in the name. If you ever pick up a bottle where the form isn't stated, the product description is the next place to look.

What about the upper limit? It's firm. Canada caps nicotine in vaping products at 20 mg/mL, and that applies to salt and freebase alike. No stronger product can legally be sold anywhere in the country, regardless of form.

Using a salt e-liquid well comes down to matching it to the right device. In a tight, low-wattage pod, 20 mg/mL salt is the usual pairing. In a device run at high wattage with a loose, direct-lung draw, the same liquid would feel far too strong — the fix is a lower-strength e-liquid, not a different salt. If you ever find a salt e-liquid harsh, check the device setting before blaming the bottle.

If you've been using disposables and are thinking of switching to a refillable device with a salt e-liquid, the experience will be familiar. Salt at 20 mg/mL in a tight, low-wattage pod feels very similar to a typical disposable. What changes is the upkeep: filling the pod every so often and replacing it when the flavour fades.

Salt e-liquid is also a sensible choice in cold weather. Because it's paired with a small, low-wattage pod, the device is compact enough to keep in an inside pocket, which helps the battery perform better on a January day than it would in an outside pocket or a cold truck.

Both of these products are bottled e-liquid, so they need a refillable pod system. If you don't have one yet, add one to the same order so you're not waiting on a second delivery before you can use the bottle.

For a first order, a single bottle of each lets you compare flavours from both lines before settling on a favourite. Reordering the winner afterwards takes seconds.

Store e-liquid somewhere cool and dark with the cap properly closed. Heat and light slowly degrade flavour, and a bottle kept in a warm vehicle won't taste the same for long. Store bottles out of the reach of children and pets — nicotine e-liquid is dangerous if swallowed, whatever its chemical form.
