Vape Delivery in Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan | Prairie Vape

Ukrainian and Hungarian families make up most of the Yellow Creek area, and the community takes its name from the creek that runs through it. It was a village until 2009 and is now a special service area on Highway 41, northeast of Wakaw, with 35 residents at the 2021 census. When replacement pods come by courier, wasting one on a burnt first puff is frustrating. This page explains how to prime a new pod properly, and why it makes such a difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does priming a pod mean?

Letting a new coil's wick soak fully with e-liquid before it heats, so the first puff doesn't scorch dry cotton.

How long should I wait after filling a new pod?

Five to ten minutes, with the pod upright.

What is smart-prime on the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini?

A 60-second feature for new pods that builds in time for the wick to soak before the coil heats.

Can a burnt pod be saved?

Usually not. A scorched wick keeps the burnt taste, so the pod needs replacing.

How to prime a new pod

"Priming" simply means making sure a new coil's wick is fully soaked with e-liquid before it heats up. It's the single most important step when you start a new pod, and the one most often skipped.

Why does it matter so much? The coil heats the liquid held in the wick. If the wick is still partly dry, the coil heats cotton instead of liquid, and dry cotton scorches. That's the harsh, burnt taste people notice on a first puff. Worse, a scorched wick doesn't recover. The burnt taste stays, and the pod is ruined long before its time.

Here's how to prime a refillable pod properly.

Fill the pod. Use the fill port, and fill to the marked line, not above it. Too much liquid in the pod is what usually causes leaks.

Wait. Leave the filled pod upright for five to ten minutes. This gives the liquid time to soak all the way through the wick. It's the step people rush.

If you're using a brand-new pod on a device you already own, the same rule applies. Every new coil needs its wick soaked before the first puff, whether it's the first pod or the fiftieth.

Start low. Use the lowest power setting for your first few puffs, then work up. A gentle start protects a fresh coil while it settles in.

Lower settings give the wick more time to keep up with the coil. Once a new pod has had a few gentle puffs, you can move to your usual setting without risk.

Pause between puffs. Taking many puffs in quick succession can dry the wick faster than it re-soaks. A few seconds between draws helps.

Two devices we carry handle this in different ways.

The Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini has a built-in 60-second smart-prime feature for new pods. It builds a pause into a new pod's first use, giving the wick time to soak before the coil heats. It's a screen-free MTL pod vape with side airflow control, a 2 or 3mL top-fill pod, a 1,600mAh battery with 2A fast charging, up to 30W, and COREX 3.0 coils. It comes in ten colours.

The Uwell Caliburn G4 Mini leaves priming to you, but it gives you control over the draw. Its dual airflow adjustment moves from a tight mouth-to-lung draw to a looser direct-to-lung one, and its output adjusts from 5 to 35W. It has a 3mL pod, an 1,100mAh battery, USB-C charging, and Uwell's PRO-FOCS 4.0 technology. It comes in twelve colours.

Even with smart-prime, it's worth letting a freshly filled pod sit for a few minutes. The feature helps; patience helps more.

How do you know a pod is primed? The first puff tastes clean and full, with no harshness. If you notice a slight dryness, stop, let it sit a few more minutes, and try again at a lower setting.

Some people notice a slightly muted flavour for the first few puffs even after priming. That's normal for a brand-new coil, which usually settles in and tastes fuller within a short while.

Priming also matters when you refill. If you let a pod run completely dry before refilling, the wick dries out too. Top up before the liquid drops below the wick openings, and you'll avoid a dry hit mid-pod.

Changing flavours is another time to be careful. Liquid left in a pod mixes with the new one, so it's best to finish one flavour before filling with the next, or start a fresh pod and prime it properly.

What about cold weather? Cold e-liquid is thick and soaks in more slowly. In winter, let a freshly filled pod sit a little longer before its first use, and keep the device in an inside pocket.

Which e-liquid should you use? For both devices at a low setting with a tight draw, a 20 mg/mL nicotine salt is the usual pairing. At higher settings, a lower strength is more comfortable. And 20 mg/mL is the Canadian maximum; nothing stronger is legal to sell.

Thicker e-liquids, higher in vegetable glycerin, soak into a wick more slowly than thinner ones, so they need a little more patience when priming, especially in a small pod.

Neither device arrives with e-liquid. Add a bottle to the same order, and consider a spare pod too, so a mistake with priming doesn't leave you waiting on a delivery.

Orders to Yellow Creek ship from our Saskatoon location by tracked courier, and tracking is emailed as they leave. Allow a couple of days; same-day delivery covers Saskatoon addresses only. ID is verified at checkout and again by the courier, who hands the parcel only to an adult 19 or older named on the order.

Store devices and bottles upright in a closed cupboard, out of reach of children and pets; nicotine e-liquid is harmful if swallowed. When a device eventually wears out, drop it at a battery or electronics recycling point, perhaps on your next trip to Wakaw or Prince Albert.
